PROBLEMInitially Avellino’s needs to address their means of advertising. When calling 411, Avellino’s number is not even listed. How are customers or people new to the area supposed to order with no number? They have no fliers, no advertisements in the local newspapers, and they are not affiliated with any other successful businesses or people in the area. This being one of their biggest concerns as regular customers are not going to help revenue increase, it will help things stay mediocre, but being mediocre is not the reason someone opens a restaurant. They need new customers from all over; which will not be achieved without any advertising techniques.

SOLUTIONWhen it comes to advertising it is not a hard thing to do. A few phone calls to different people could do a great deal. First off a call to 411 is definitely a necessity; it will take less than 5 minutes to confirm the number and the business with them. Next a call to the local newspaper to find out how to advertise their business in the everyday newspaper will take another 5 minutes. An easy way of advertising that has been used by many Chinese restaurants recently is taking their menus and walking around the local neighborhood, to local offices, local business, apartment complexes, and households and putting menus on their doors or in their mailboxes. That gets the name, number, and even a list of your products in the easiest and quickest way possible. If these three things are done, a flock of new faces will be coming to the restaurant in no time.

PROBLEM: Another problem is the quality. Not so much on the dinners, but the pizza has been complained about on certain days says management. This problem occurs when different pizza guys work on different days, because they have different ways of making their cheese, sauce, and dough. This is another huge concern for the business. When someone goes to McDonald’s and gets a burger and fries, it is the same if you’re in New Jersey or in California. Consistency is imperative when coming to pizza, that’s why customers keep coming back.

SOLUTION: The pizza problem can turn to a disaster if not handled immediately. There is a simple solution to this:
  1.       Every pizza guy is taught to make dough with the same ingredients and the same technique.
  2.       There should be a set amount of sauce applied to the pie (example, a soup cup of sauce).
  3.      Same goes for the cheese, a precisely measured amount of cheese should be applied next.
  4.      Toppings should be applied the same for every pie as well.
  5.       There should be a set timer for each pie to be in the oven and cooked to a certain temperature.

By following these easy 5 steps they should never hear a complaint about their pizza not being consistent again. This should not have become a problem in the first place, but because of the hiring of different pizza cooks, it has occurred. Hopefully they can fix this problem immediately if it has not already been fixed.

PROBLEM: Deliveries are a huge necessity, especially on weekends. People have worked all week, cooked all week, and dealt with all the normal problems that come with everyday life throughout the week. They want to take a day off from cooking for the family, relax and get some good food delivered right to their doorstep in a short amount of time for not too much money. On weekends at Avellino’s deliveries can get up to 30 or 40 a night, making the delivery times increase as the more orders come in. Complaints have been given recently on the amount of time customers were waiting for their food. If the times keep getting longer and longer, customers are going to start to use other pizzerias or restaurants instead of Avellino’s and this is definitely not what they want.
SOLUTION: Deliveries are an easy fix. Avellino’s understands that it takes money to make money, so bring in one more delivery guy on the weekends and everything should be settled accordingly. One driver to take orders to one part of the local area they deliver to, while the other driver would take the other half. It is also an easy fix that should have been implanted already.

PROBLEM:  Management tells us that the owner is not around as much as he used to be. The manager says he is told he is the manager, but is not given management privileges. He does not do the scheduling, he does not order people to do anything, and he is not respected as a manager by other employees. The owner not being there on a consistent basis hurts the company a lot, because then he does not know what is going on at his restaurant. He cannot hear these complaints by customers and change them himself and he does not give that right to the manager either, so in the end nothing is done.

SOLUTION: The reason these fixes were not implemented quicker is the main reason. The owner needs to be present A LOT more. If the owner was present to hear these complaints, to see the time it is taking to make a delivery, to see how some of his employees are slacking, it would be a whole different scenario. Either the owner needs to get more involved in his business on a regular basis or he needs to hand those privileges to the manager and let him handle these petty things. That is what the manager is paid for, so why not have him take care of these issues?

Hopefully these fixes are made, because from what we’ve witnesses this business has a lot of potential. They already do good business, but with a few fixes to their problems, they could be making more money, with more customers, with no complaints and no problems. In return everyone is happy, the owner, the manager, the employees, and most importantly the customers.
